Long Week – Meaningful Results. Sustainable Development Week 2018 is over

Third SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT WEEK has just been concluded in Moscow. Its programme was this year formed along three thematic directions: ‘Education and Certification’, ‘Supporting Changes’, ‘Tools and technologies’. 

It provided participants with an opportunity to build their trajectory in a convenient way by choosing target events, which took place on 21 to 29 September at venues of Moscow International Business School MIRBIS (Institute), Agency for Strategic Initiatives, Moscow International Business Center ‘Moscow City’, Moscow Oil Processing Plants ‘Gazprom Neft’ and online. 

Sustainable Development Week is an integrated educational and awareness-raising project, which has been enforced since 2016 in a an Education&Practice form. It is supported by leading Russian and international companies and experts. The project is aimed at facilitating integration of sustainability approaches into Russian practice through forming an integrated management thinking focused at search and enforcing sustainability strategies based on values shared by business and society. 

The thematic direction ‘Education and Certification’ included educational programmes and workshops, ‘CSR and sustainability schools’, international certifications on management systems, project management and sustainability reporting. Out of the key events of the direction there were: certification programme ‘GRI Standards. Sustainability reporting’, a course ‘Sustainable project management Green Project Management (GPM P5)’, a course ‘Corporate sustainability management: corporate social strategies’; a workshop ‘Stakeholder engagement based on the standardАА1000 SES-2015’; a certification training on integrated reporting, a certification training ‘GRI Standards. Sustainability reporting’, a programme ‘Development and introduction of corporate responsibility management system based on the standard IQNet SR 10-2015’, The direction programme also involved practices ‘Best available techniques. Leaders experience’ and ‘Moscow green offices’, supported by the SUE ‘State environmental protection enterprise’ of the Moscow Department of Natural Resources. 

SDW-2018 programme, as well as the programme of the events in the direction ‘Supporting Change’ was opened by the expert roundtable ‘Best Corporate Sustainability Practices’ in Agency of Strategic Initiatives. Experts of the UN Global Compact Local Network, Donors Forum, MCCI, companies SUEK, Nornickel, Deloitte, Segezha Group took part in the roundtable. Participants shared their groundwork, best practices and sustainability and CSR solutions, as well as suggested a number of consolidated ideas on popularization and spreading best practices in Russia. Also the programme of this direction included an express-accelerator ‘Sustainable Models of Socially Focused and Environmental Business’, addressed to entrepreneurs implementing projects on these directions and interested in raising their efficiency due to professional recommendations of business experts. One of the brightest events in this directors was the team quiz hackathon ‘Local Solutions to Global Problems’, during which students of Russian universities in an express-mode elaborated concepts of solutions and projects on selected Sustainable Development Goals. UN Global Compact Local Network Russia acted as an initiator and a co-host of the event, supported by its partners Deloitte, AKAI, SkyEng, Sustainability Management School SUMAS,(Gland, Switzerland). During the event, Global Compact Local Network and Deloitte experts had a discussion with quiz-hackathon participants on relevant directions of sustainable development and corporate social responsibility, shared examples of business transformations considering the SDGs. All concepts and programmes developed during the hackathon, are aimed at implementing the SDGs with a stress on business role in achieving them considering the importance of global agenda for people and the planet. The team MGIMO has become the winner of the quiz-hackathon.  

The direction ‘Tools and Technologies’ brought together a set of relevant tools and technologies facilitating efficient formation of sustainable environment both in business and a society: a workshop ‘Mapping Corporate Development Areas. Forming and Expert Community Inside the Company’; a workshop ‘Reporting as a Tool of Successful Cooperation with Grant Providers’; a workshop from a creative agency Brusnika ‘Brand Story video – How to Create an Efficient video Disregarding the Budget’; a corporate conference (supported by Sberbank Russia); a workshop ‘Integrated Thinking. Tools and Technologies of Sustainable Development’; ‘a workshop ‘Emotional Intelligence’; a webinar ‘Forming Various Community Types for Sustainable Development of the Company’; a workshop ‘Impact Cinema and Social Media Projects as Tools of Social Investment’; a workshop ‘Community Management’; a workshop ‘Fundraising: New Approaches for New Economy’. 

The closing event of the SDW-2018 was the roundtable ‘New Digital Way of Life and Corporate Sustainability: Trends, Projects, Solutions’. It took place, as the first event of the programme, in the Agency of Strategic Initiatives. During the roundtable speakers from IBM Russia/CIS, Beeline and IT Hub Group shared their cases, which have become one of the best corporate practices of digital business transformation in the sustainable development model, reviewed key challenges of digital economy for business and a society, as well as new aspects of implementing sustainable development models.
