Environmental and climate Agenda for sustainable development


The project is being implemented in accordance with the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on:
Good health and well-being (SDG 3);
Clean water and sanitation (SDG 6);
Climate action (SDG 13);
Life below water (SDG 14);
Life on land (SDG 15);
Partnerships for the goals (SDG 17).

Project goal
Join efforts at the national and corporate levels to form integratedapproaches to solving climate and environmental problems,creating new opportunities.

WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION


Cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)

• Organization of a series of seminars for the Russian participants of the UN Global Compact with the involvement of international experts - employees of the UNEP Head office in Geneva
March 30 - meeting between UN GC Network Russia and Sylvie Motard, the Acting Director of the European Office UNEP
June 26 - joint seminar with UNEP Office on topic: "UNEP Strategy on partnership with corporate sector"
Planned seminars on the topics: plastic pollution, biodiversity conservation, adaptation to the effects of climate change, etc.

• Participation of a delegation of representatives of the UN GC Network Russia in the Second Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (UNEP) - INC-2 (Paris, 29 May - 2 June 2023)

• Assistance in the direct negotiation process of the UN GC Network Russia participants and the UNEP Office based on the request of the organizations. UN Global Compact Network Russia is an accredited participant in UNEP events.


Participation in national and international events

• Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment.
In February 2022, at the resumed fifth session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5.2), a historic resolution (5/14) was adopted to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment with the ambition to complete the negotiations by end of 2024. The instrument is to be based on a comprehensive approach that addresses the full life cycle of plastic.

International Forum "Ecology" - one of the leading public platforms to discuss pressing environmental issues and the formation of public policy guidelines in the field of environmental protection and environmental management.
The Forum, which has been held annually since 2009, is attended by representatives of all levels of government, public and commercial organizations, the scientific community, independent experts and eco-activists.

• Participation of the UN Global Compact Network Russia in UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) Dubai, November 30 - December 12, 2023
1) Implementation of an integral Concept for presenting a responsible and consistent position on the climate agenda by Russia and Russian business, topics:
- Integrating the climate Agenda into sustainable development
- Corporate practices on the climate Agenda
- Climate Aspects in Supply Chains
- International cooperation on the climate Agenda
- Technologies for the decarbonization of business processes and supply chains
2) Formation of the Program for the participation of the UN Global Compact
- Network Russia in the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) 
- Presentation of practical cases of companies
- Organization of partner events
- Educational seminars
- Discussions with international experts

Raising Awareness and Mobilizing Action

• Involvement of experts on the development of the environmental and climate agenda in Russia
A series of partner webinars of the National Network of the Global Compact with the involvement of experts on the topics:
- Introductory Webinar: China's Climate Agenda, April 3, 2023
- Opportunities for cooperation between Russia and China in the field of "green" development. Transfer of "green" technologies, June 27, 2023

• UN Global Compact Climate Ambition Accelerator 2024 (TBC)

• The White Paper on corporate projects of Russian companies on the Climate Agenda, which will include the following sections:
1) Section 1. Corporate Policies
2) Section 2. Technologies for the decarbonization of business processes and supply chains
3) Section 3. Green Finance
4) Section 4. Climate Agenda in the Context of Sustainable Development of Regions
5) Register of climate projects in Russia
6) Register of climate projects of Russian companies abroad

The mechanism for the formation of the White Paper includes the creation of a Working Group with the participation of representatives of government agencies, business, and experts.
