International Mother Earth Day

International Mother Earth Day is observed annually on April 22. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2009 at the initiative of Bolivia and over 50 member states, this day highlights the interdependence between humans, other living beings, and the planet, while reminding us of the need for harmonious coexistence with nature.

In 2025, the theme for Mother Earth Day will be "Our Power, Our Planet," emphasizing the critical transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and the role of individuals and businesses in environmental protection and human rights.

Contemporary environmental challenges—including climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation—impact fundamental human rights, such as the rights to health, safety, clean water, and a healthy environment.

As part of its mission, the UN Global Compact National Network promotes the integration of sustainable development principles and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into corporate strategies and practices. We firmly believe that sustainable development cannot be achieved without respecting human rights, just as the protection of human rights is impossible without a sustainable planet.

On this day, we underscore the importance of collaborative efforts among businesses, governments, and civil society to preserve the environment, uphold human rights, and build a just and sustainable future.

You can register your Earth Day event here.

To mark this occasion, the UN will host an interactive dialogue on "the inextricable link between human well-being and the well-being of Planet Earth."
The livestream will be available on UN Web TV on April 22 from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM (UTC+3).
